A NEW NATURE
An interesting story is told regarding a traveler in Italy who spent the night at a very little wayside inn. The floor in his area was dreadfully dirty. He thought to himself, “I’ll ask the landlady to scrub it.” But when he saw that the floor was created of mud he gave it a second thought. That won’t do, he mused. What will someone do to be born of God? Jesus said merely, “Come back unto Me . . .” And anyone who responds to His straightforward invitation will be met by God. The new birth is not something one can do for himself. It is not a human invention. It is the work of God alone! God will do that for any man who desires it. The sole demand for the new birth is willingness.
Thus when someone admits his guilt, asks forgiveness for his sins, and invitations Christ into his heart, God meets him with the gift of a brand new religious life — a nature that is God-like rather than sinful.
